This artwork was inspired by South African artist Jody Paulsen.
Lalela learners created colourful pop-inspired collages that represent their generation. The artists looked at iconography from popular cultures such as branding, packaging, logos and slogans and re-interpreted them to create a simple pattern that represents youth culture.
Madeline, the 14-year-old artist, lives in the Hangberg community in Hout Bay, Western Cape. She is a quiet young girl who has used her creativity at Lalela as a means of self-expression. The confidence Madeline gained through her mastery in art has translated into her everyday life.
